The Clariter Project

Problem: Plastic waste is a global challenge as millions of tons of post-consumer used plastics are constantly accumulating on a daily basis. Less than a third is currently being recovered or recycled, while the rest is still going to landfill disposal. The natural degradation of Polywaste takes hundreds of years.

Along with the constant growth in population and the limitation of land, the challenge is to find new and creative means to minimise the abuse of our natural resources. Therefore, municipalities, local authorities and the communities at large, encouraged by legislation, have created regulations for waste management, aiming to reduce the amount of waste disposed in landfills through selective collection, reuse, recycling and recovery of various solid waste.

Solution: The problem of plastic waste can be addressed through providing an innovative clean-tech solution for the disposal of Polywaste and the creation of leading lines of high-purity chemical liquids for relevant industries. The aim, therefore, is to promote and establish the first full-scale Clariter manufacturing base in South Africa and also to encourage the establishment of a Clariter manufacturing base in the other BRICS partner countries.

Benefits: The benefits of this project include – but are not limited to – employment creation and a contribution to the green economy. The project is also an entrepreneurship development creator as the end product is used in other businesses.
